GII 2026 Highlights Gap Between Tech Exports and Technology Mastery
The GII 2026 index shows Vietnam leading in high-tech export proportion. However, low intellectual property revenue indicates a need to enhance technology mastery capabilities.

According to Deputy Minister Hoang Minh, the GII 2026 index recorded Vietnam as leading in the proportion of high-tech exports. However, the report also indicated that revenue from intellectual property remains low. This highlights a significant gap between the country's ability to export technology products and its actual capacity to master technology. To address this, Vietnam needs to focus on improving its technology mastery capabilities, moving beyond merely exporting manufactured products. Increased investment in research and development, along with effective protection and exploitation of intellectual property rights, are necessary steps. The goal is to transition from a role of processing and assembly to mastering core technologies, thereby generating higher and more sustainable added value for the national economy and strengthening its position in the global technology landscape.
